Join us for The Way I See It an exhibit of oil and acrylic paintings by local artist Sherry Shelton.
“I consider myself to be an optimistic realist, so I love to use intense color and a good bit of detail in most of my work. This collection of paintings is an eclectic blend of subjects that range from nature with its infinite variety of beauty to interesting people and what makes them distinctive, to things that just make me feel good and have a unique, out of the ordinary ambiance to them. Some of my paintings are light-hearted and fun, but sometimes they can be very deep and intensely personal. However, even the paintings with negative emotional content have an underlying solution or conclusion that shows a lesson learned or conveys how the problem can be dealt with and in the end leaves one with hope instead of despair.”
Sherry grew up around Mobile, Alabama and from a very young age, she has loved creating her own art.
She received her B.A. Degree in Art at the University of South Alabama with an emphasis on painting. After taking time off to raise her family, she has now returned to her passionate pursuit of artistic expression with a renewed zeal and sense of purpose. She has studied under several talented local artists who have assisted in the development of her technique as she continues to shape and refine her God-given talents and abilities.
Being a realist, her work is often very detailed and colorful. Her subject matter and inspiration are derived from a unique sense of observation of nature, of people, and of life itself. She will pick up on the interesting shapes and unseen beauty where many others see only the mundane and the ordinary. So whether it’s intriguing individuals, beloved animals, tropical beaches, setting suns or fanciful flowers, she seeks to capture those certain moments in time and convey the hidden story with her canvas.
Not limiting her artistic expression to painting, she also creates art quilts and book illustrations. She has illustrated her first children’s book, written by Ann Burgo, called “The Parable of the Three Little Pigs”.
